Weekend Update + Blog Everday In May Challenge

Chicago officially became Spring this weekend and I think every ones mood was lifted. I was cursed with a cold but I refused to let it get me down too much and still enjoyed a couple beers with friends and a whole lot of family time.

We are officially less than one month from our big trip to Ireland and I think my whole family is getting really excited about it! Recently we were surprised to find out that another person was going to be joining us on our big family adventure...baby Watkins! My sister and her husband Kirk are expecting their first baby in October and my family is over the moon about meeting our first niece/nephew/grandchild. The Watkins are waiting to find out if they are having a boy or girl so we are all having a lot of fun guessing for the time being.

In other news, one of the blogs I follow is encouraging a challenge in May to blog every day. The topics are already provided so it seems like a great way to get writing and get creative. It is also going to be a great way for the five people who read this blog to really get to know me...
 Stay tuned!

Here are the topics for the month of May:

Day 1, Wednesday: The story of your life in 250 words or less (or one paragraph... no one will be counting your words... probably)
Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know a lot about or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic)
Day 3, Friday: Things that make you uncomfortable
Day 4, Saturday: Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why you love it
Day 5, Sunday: Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them? If you don't have blogger friends, talk about a real-life friend or even a family member
Day 6, Monday: If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?
Day 7, Tuesday: The thing(s) you're most afraid of
Day 8, Wednesday: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.
Day 9, Thursday: A moment in your day (this can be just a photo or both a photo and words)
Day 10, Friday: Most embarrassing moment (s). Spill.
Day 11, Saturday: Sell yourself in 10 words or less
Day 12, Sunday: What do you miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of your life...)
Day 13, Monday: Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as you want it to be.
Day 14, Tuesday: Ten things that make you really happy
Day 15, Wednesday: A Day in the life (include photos from throughout your typical day - this could be "a photo an hour" if you'd like)
Day 16, Thursday: Something difficult about your "lot in life" and how you're working to overcome it
Day 17, Friday: A favorite photo of yourself and why
Day 18, Saturday: Tell a story from your childhood. Dig deep and try to be descriptive about what you remember and how you felt.
Day 19, Sunday: Five of your favorite blogs and what you love about them
Day 20, Monday: Get real. Share something you're struggling with right now.
Day 21, Tuesday: A list of links to your favorite posts in your archives
Day 22, Wednesday: Rant about something. Get up on your soapbox and tell us how you really feel. (a pet peeve, a current event, a controversial topic, something your husband or roommate or neighbor or boss does that really ticks you off)
Day 23, Thursday: Things you've learned that school won't teach you
Day 24, Friday: Your top 3 worst traits
Day 25, Saturday: Something someone told you about yourself that you'll never forget (good or bad)
Day 26, Sunday: Something you read online. Leave a link and discuss, if you'd like.
Day 27, Monday: A letter to your readers
Day 28, Tuesday: Only pictures
Day 29, Wednesday: Five songs or pieces of music that speak to you or bring back memories. Use Grooveshark or YouTube to include them in the post
Day 30, Thursday: React to this term: Letting Go
Day 31, Friday: A vivid memory

Random Updates

I am convinced that the man who hands out the Red Eye at my train stop is Seal in disguise. I am waiting for the day where all the hidden cameras pop out and you find out he was on a reality show trying to expose how everyday commuters treat the Red Eye guy. Just in case I have been trying to look good every day this week. I'll keep ya posted.

In other news I officially have to go back to being gluten-free. The numb mouth, upset stomach and fatigue are really starting to get to me. I also have been reading some gluten-free blogs and the life changing stories are starting to inspire me. (NOT!) I know I have said this before but this time I am going to attempt to take it extra seriously. I even ordered a gluten-free beer at the bar tonight. Big step.
Here's to healthy living...I hate healthy living.

Tuesday Song + A Wonderful Engagement

Over the weekend one of my oldest friend Chris got engaged to his girlfriend (now fiance Megan)! I could not be more excited for Chris and Megan! They are an amazing couple and deserve all the happiness in the world! I can't wait to celebrate with the two of them! So my Tuesday song is dedicated to them. Its a little cheesy and corny but perfect for a wedding.

Happy Birthday Michael!

Yesterday was my big brother's 27th birthday! I was luckily enough to celebrate with him this past weekend in the Cleve but I wanted to give an a special shout out for his birthday.

Happy Birthday Michael! I could not ask for a better big brother or friend. Even though you are a type B (extremely slow at most things) you have still managed to accomplish so much in your life. We are all so proud of you! I think 27 is going to be a big year for you!

P.S. Come home to Chicago.

Boston

I don't think its right to post anything without acknowledging the tragedy that happened in Boston this week. It is hard to not constantly think "What a messed up world we live in" when things like this happen. While I have been saddened by the events this week and can't stop thinking about all those people who were hurt it has also been amazing to see how people come together in a time of tragedy.

My thoughts and prayers have been with Boston this week and all those people that were affected by that terrible event.

National Sibling Day Take Two

Today is National Sibling Day. Apparently I was way off on my first National Sibling Day post. Whoops.

I am sure anyone who reads this blog knows how I feel about my siblings. I am one of those lucky people that has siblings that are some of my closest friends. The first four of us, Mary Kate, Michael, Nora, and I, are within five years but we were extra blessed with one more, Brendan. Together we made a unit of five, the only exclusive group I have ever been a part of. I love telling people I am the middle of five. It shaped so much of who I am today.

Sibling relationships are so different than any other relationship. Most of us have a special bond that others are never going to get. Siblings are the people that you trust to be overly honest with you. They are the people you want to be accepted by and the people you love to brag about. Plus they are the only people that it's socially acceptable to make fun of.

I know everyone relationship with their siblings is different. But I got pretty lucky with my bunch.

This past weekend I saw Jurassic Park in 3D. In case you are wondering if it was awesome...it was! Along with the rest of the theater I was overwhelmed with emotions from early childhood memories. So in honor of one of the best movies ever made enjoy!

Spring Cleaning and Rainy Days

I spent most of the weekend spring cleaning which I am a big fan of. I find spring cleaning to be  therapeutic and it gives me a sense of a fresh start. It love getting rid of old crap and cleaning up the mess that piled up during the winter. The happiness I get out of spring cleaning is telling of how much things have changed. What I use to hate about cleaning is something I now get a relaxing joy out of.  This article was printed in buzzfeed this morning and unfortunately I could relate more that I wanted to.  Oh getting older.

After all the dusting, organizing and tossing I felt ready for some big tackling. It almost made it easier to get up this morning...almost. Unfortunately, no matter how organized you get on the weekend Mondays are always the worst. Waking up to the rain made it double hard to get out of bed this morning. There is something about the rain that makes you just want to lay in bed all day. Needless to say the lazy/late start to the day made for a very unproductive day which makes tomorrow look like he**. It looks like we are expecting a lot of rain this week which means its going to be one long and lazy week.

Commuter Troubles

This morning I decided that before you are allowed to take public transportation you should be required to take a class that teaches you how to ride public transportation. Specifically, how to ride public transportation during rush hour. For example, why don't people move to the back. It is such a simple thing to do that would save people so much pain, both mentally and physically, yet so many people don't do it.

Obviously, I had a terrible commute today that left me a little bitter. Luckily, the weather, friends in town and the fact that I am going to see Jurassic Park in 3D tonight is keeping me going.

Almost 5! Have a great weekend!

Tuesday Song...Pump Up

Now that is officially April I am going to try to get my butt back in gear in both my personal and professional life. Game of Thrones season 3 also premiered so good things are happening every day. In honor of trying to get into action this spring I will leave you with this list of pump up songs from buzzfeed.

This might be my favorite.

Happy Tuesday people, get it done.

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit

April is here and I think Chicago is playing a big April's Fool joke on us by being 30 degrees out. Thankfully the weekend was full of sunshine and "warmer" weather making today a little easier to handle.

Both of my younger siblings were in town were in town this weekend I was able to spend some quality bonding time with them before they had to head back to their "temporary" homes. Per usual the weekend was filled with giggles, shouting and lots of celebrating which was a great way to end March. Happy April!
